Ceasefire Report – January 2026

January 2026 witnessed a marked deterioration in operational compliance with the Lebanon–Israel ceasefire that entered into force on 27 November 2024. Throughout the reporting period, Israeli air, drone,
artillery, and limited ground operations were conducted across southern Lebanon, with extensions into Nabatieh, Tyre, Bint Jbeil, Jezzine, and parts of the Bekaa Valley. The cumulative pattern reflects a sustained tempo of military activity rather than isolated incidents.
UNIFIL and Lebanese authorities repeatedly classified these actions as violations of Lebanese sovereignty, UN Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006), and the ceasefire framework. Israel, for its part, consistently
justified its actions as preventive measures aimed at countering Hezbollah military activity and regeneration. The month underscores the fragility of the ceasefire and the widening gap between its political maintenance and its erosion at the operational level.
